UFC on ESPN 30 post-event facts: Sam Alvey’s skid hits record territory

The UFC closed out a busy August schedule on Saturday with UFC on ESPN 30, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A new featherweight contender emerged in the main event when Giga Chikadze (14-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) put on a scintillating striking performance against Edson Barboza (22-10 MMA, 16-10 UFC) to score the third-round TKO.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $171,000.

Debuting fighters went 4-4 at the event.

Chikadze, Gerald Meerschaert, Abdul Razak Alhassan and Pat Sabatini earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 30 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 30, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 7-5 on the card.

Betting favorites fell to 14-8 with one no contest in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 1:59:14.

Edson Barboza vs. Giga Chikadze

Chikadze became the third featherweight in UFC history to start 7-0 with the promotion. Alexander Volkanovski and Arnold Allen also accomplished the feat.

Chikadze’s seven-fight UFC winning streak at featherweight is tied with Volkanovski for the second longest active streak in the division behind Allen (eight).

Chikadze has earned 10 of his 14 career victories by stoppage.

Barboza fell to 0-3 in UFC main events.

Barboza fell to 2-2 since he dropped to the featherweight division in May 2020.

Barboza has suffered six of his 10 career losses by stoppage.

Bryan Battle def. Gilbert Urbina

Bryan Battle (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned five of his six career victories by stoppage.

Gilbert Urbina (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with his submission defeat.

Ricky Turcios def. Brady Hiestand

Ricky Turcios (11-2 MMA 1-0 UFC) has earned seven of his 11 career victories by decision.

Brady Hiestand (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Daniel Rodriguez def. Kevin Lee

Daniel Rodriguez (16-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) has earned three of his six UFC victories by decision.

Kevin Lee (18-7 MMA, 11-7 UFC) was unsuccessful in his return to the welterweight division. He fell to 0-2 in the weight class overall.

Lee has completed at least one takedown in 16 of his 18 UFC fights.

Andre Petroski def. Micheal Gillmore

Andre Petroski (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all six of his career victories by stoppage.

Micheal Gillmore (5-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by stoppage.

Gillmore suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Gerald Meerschaert def. Makhmud Muradov

Meerschaert (32-14 MMA, 8-6 UFC) has earned 30 of his 32 carer victories by stoppage. That includes all eight of his UFC wins.

Meerschaert’s seven submission victories in UFC middleweight competition are most in divisional history.

Makhmud Muradov (25-7 MMA, 3-1 UFC) had his 14-fight winning streak snapped for his first defeat since December 2016.

Muradov has suffered five of his seven career losses by stoppage.

Abdul Razak Alhassan def. Alessio Di Chirico

Alhassan (11-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) improved to 1-1 since he moved up to the UFC middleweight division in April 2021.

Alhassan has earned all his career victories by first-round knockout.

Alhassan’s 17-second knockout marked the fastest finish in UFC history stemming from a head kick.

Alessio Di Chirico (13-6 MMA, 4-6 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Wellington Turman def. Sam Alvey

Wellington Turman (17-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Turman became the first fighter to be deducted 2 points in a three-round UFC fight and win a decision.

Sam Alvey’s (33-16-1 MMA, 10-11-1 UFC) seven-fight winless skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since June 2018.

Alvey’s seven-fight winless skid is second longest in UFC history behind B.J. Penn (eight).

Alvey has suffered 11 of his 16 career losses by decision.

Dustin Jacoby def. Darren Stewart

Dustin Jacoby (15-5-1 MMA, 3-2-1 UFC) improved to 3-0-1 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in October 2020.

Jacoby has earned 11 of his 15 career victories by stoppage. That includes two of his three wins.

Darren Stewart’s (12-8 MMA, 5-7 UFC) four-fight winless skid is tied for the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since August 2020.

Stewart fell to 0-2 since he returned to the UFC light heavyweight division in June 2021.

Stewart suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

JJ Aldrich def. Vanessa Demopoulos

JJ Aldrich (10-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) improved to 3-2 since she moved up to the UFC women’s flyweight division in March 2019.

Aldrich has earned all six of her UFC victories by decision.

Vanessa Demopoulos (6-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered all four of her career losses by decision.

Pat Sabatini def. Jamall Emmers

Sabatini (15-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned 12 of his 15 career victories by stoppage.

Jamall Emmers (18-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered four of his six career losses by stoppage.

Mana Martinez def. Guido Cannetti

Mana Martinez (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) earned the first decision victory of his career.

Guido Cannetti’s (8-6 MMA, 2-5 UFC) four-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since May 2018.

Cannetti suffered the first decision loss of his career.
